However, in the meantime, fans of the franchise can replay the original and even make it a little easier on themselves with a mod or two.
There are plenty of mods out there made by the fan community to help make the game easier and more forgiving. This is super helpful for players who want to complete the game but usually struggle, or for fans who want to replay without raising their stress levels as much on their next playthrough.
15 TRUE HEROES
The True Heroes Mod (which is now onto version 2.0) is the perfect choice for anyone looking to make Darkest Dungeon a little easier. This modreworks the game to make it less about sheer luck and makes it more rewarding for players who like to strategize.
This mod rebalances the stats of the heroes, increasing the damage dealt, resistances, character speed, healing skills, HP, and more. There also some added inventory upgrades with this mod that can prove rather useful too.
14 ROSTER SIZE INCREASE
The Roster Size Increase mod is an absolute godsend as it increases the number of heroes you can keep on hand to a total of 50. The usual number your roster holds by default is 28 on Darkest or Stygian difficulty mode or 30 on Darkest, so this mod grants quite an increase.
Considering that your heroes can die permanently, as well as them needing time to remove stress and afflictions between runs, it's always useful to have some more back up heroes on hand, all of whom can be ready to journey out on a new adventure should your favorites be busy.
13 FASTER WALKING MOD
Though the Faster Walking Mod doesn't necessarily make your gameplay easier, it does speed things up quite a bit, which just generally makes for an overall smoother playthrough.

This mod increasesthe forward walking speed of characters from 400 to 600,whiletheir reverse walking speed increases from 200 to 400. As with any procedurally-generated dungeon crawler, the dungeons can be vast and get rather boring, so if you can pick up the pacea bit, it definitely helps.
12 CURIO HINTS
As you travel through the catacombs of Darkest Dungeon, your party will often come across curios and objects of interest that you can interact with. Many of these require players to use certain items on them.
To simplify the game somewhat, the Curio Hints mod adds an additional graphic to curios so you can see which item you need to use on which curio. Additionally, if no graphic is displayed, this means either no item is required or the curio will have a negative effect on your team.
11 GOLD MOD
As with most games, players are limited with what they can buy as they simply don't have the funds to purchase everything. In Darkest Dungeon, it's not as if the dungeons are particularly generous in their rewards either.
However, with the Gold Mod, you can increase the gold you receive from each dungeon run. This mod gives you the choice of increasing the gold you would normally receive by x2, x10, or even x100, in order to make your playthrough super easy-peasy.
10 EPIC LOADING SCREENS
Players don't get to reward themselves much inDarkest Dungeonand the game also doesn't care much about the players. That's why every bit of morale boost ought to be welcome in the game— even something as small as a loading screen can make a difference in outlook.

Epic Loading Screens allows players some respite in the foreboding abyss of theDarkest Dungeonby changing the ominous loading screens to something more heroic. They're mostly your heroes launching an epic assault against the grotesque enemies but you ought to take any hope you can get in-game.
9 HOLY HEALING WATER
For many players,Darkest Dungeoncan feel unnecessarily unfair especially with the frustratingly minimal means to heal your party. You can prepare for that by using buffs like the holy water but the random number generation (RNG) will still determine everything.
Holy Healing Water makes the gameplay a bit more forgiving for the players without breaking anything fundamental about it. It merely adds a healing property to the holy water tool. You can even choose how much it heals depending on your idea of gameplay balance.
8 NO ABOMINATION PARTY RESTRICTIONS
The Abomination is pretty powerful and unique as far as classes go inDarkest Dungeon. It's a lycanthrope that can pretty much carry the whole party. The problem is, certain holier-than-thou judgmental classes like the Crusader, the Leper, and the Vestal don't want him in the party.
That's rather detrimental and counterproductive of them. So you can remove thisdiscrimination with the No Abomination Party Restrictions mod. It lets you build your party any way you want because Abominations only want to help.
7 FASTER COMBAT
After several hours of gameplay inDarkest Dungeon,players will soon begin to realize just how much of a grind this RPG can be. Combat encounters can quickly become a chore especially if you just want more trinkets or want to level up your benchwarmers.

Faster Combat makes players' lives easier by, well, speeding up the combat. It speeds up all combat animations (aside from crits) bydouble the amountor reduces their length by half, whichever way you see it. It's a small change but a welcome one.
6 PITCH BLACK DUNGEON
If you're already tired of the core gameplay formula ofDarkest Dungeon, then spicing things up with an overhaul should do the trick. The Pitch Black Dungeon mod gives you that opportunity by making the game drastically different but in a familiar shell.
The mod adds tons of enemy varieties, additional lore, different dungeon layouts, more items, more quests, and even an enhanced user interface. Of course, it's also just as challenging, if not more so; be warned.
5 LEVEL RESTRICTIONS REMOVAL
Depending on howplayers use this mod,they can make the game harder or easier. Level Restrictions Removal does what it says. Now your high-level heroes can go anywhere as they please and your newbies can be more suicidal.
It's a good neutral mod to have that lets players feel just how powerful their heroes have become, while also givinga challenge for those who prefer to feel the very definition of hell.
4 3TRINKETS
Players can only have four characters at any given run inDarkest Dungeonand this can feel rather limiting especially when one has acquired a treasure trove's worth of items. Some will certainly want to try out multiple trinkets if they're all good.

3 Trinkets lets players have this opportunity. It adds another trinket slot to each character you acquire in the game. Of course, this might also be considered cheating as it can make the game a bit easier— nothing game-breaking though, but still, use at your own preference.
3 LAMIA CLASS MOD
Out of all the custom classes inDarkest Dungeon, the Lamia stands out as the most detailed and the most downloaded on a certain website. It comes complete with its own custom art that fits well into the game as well as the appropriate skills.
Think of the Lamia as the female version of the Abomination but less angry and more bardic. She sings tales to ease everyone's stress which is helpful in camping and equally deadly in combat. Yes, she has a monster form too.
2 INVENTORY BALANCE
Outside of combat, one of the biggest gameplay mechanics inDarkest Dungeonis the loot. Sadly, your meek heroes can only carry so much which is rather questionable seeing as there are four of them. Inventory Balance makes them carry more for their sake.
It's a mod that changes the stacking of items in the inventory, practically increasing the stack count. Now they can carry more rations, more gold, and more resources. It can count as cheating too but that depends on one's definition of "fair."
1 BETTER TRINKETS
Spend a little while completing some runs inDarkest Dungeonand you'll notice that a good majority of the treasure you're rewarded with— the trinkets— are cursed. They mostly come with negative effects, especially the most powerful ones and this can dissuade players.
TheBetter Trinketsmod makes these trinkets more appealing by letting you have your cake and eat it too. Now all the trinket rewards have nothing but positive stat boosts and effects. It's a great mod if you're tired of being a masoch*st inDarkest Dungeon.
