Despite Being Worth $650 Million, Howard Stern Made SiriusXM Pay For Multiple Miami Hotel Rooms For Just He And His Wife (2024)

Howard Stern is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in the world. While he's not front and center like Leonardo DiCaprio or constantly in the news like Meghan Markle, he commands a massive radio audience and has for decades. Not to mention the fact that he's become seen as one of the best celebrity interviewers of all time.

But for such a huge star, Howard Stern lives a relatively simple life. For one, he's a notorious recluse. So catching him traveling the world or out at a fancy restaurant is rare. But Stern is also incredibly particular.

The SiriusXM radio legend revealed that he had an extremely specific (and arguably ostentatious) request when he was forced to do shows from Miami in May 2023. This request involved his parent company booking him multiple hotel rooms on their dime despite his outlandish net worth...

How Rich Is Howard Stern?

Howard Stern almost never flaunts his immense wealth. In fact, he publicly criticizes those who do. This is why he's run afoul of Oprah, who he's often lambasted for shoving her immense wealth in the faces of her fans. The same is true for his May 2023 criticisms of King Charles' coloration which he called "disgusting" due to Britain's economically stressed citizenry fronting the bill for the royal's $100 million event.

Stern, of course, has an unbelievably impressive net worth himself. Celebrity Net Worth claims it's somewhere around $650 million. This would make sense given his unparalleled success in the radio industry, being a three-time best-selling author, a former host of America's Got Talent, and the star, subject, and producer of the blockbuster film, Private Parts.

While little of Stern's spending habits are known, his fans know that he and his wife funnel a lot into their animal charity. The self-proclaimed King of All Media has also told his radio audience how he financially supports a few of his family members, mainly his ailing mother, Ray.

Given Stern's exclusivity, particularly during the pandemic in which he rarely left his house (much to the chagrin of his fans who were eager for in-person shows), it's uncommon for him to spend money on restaurants or travel. Stern, however, does have some impressive real estate.

According to The New York Post, this includes his $21 million penthouse in Manhattan and a sprawling $25 million mansion in The Hamptons.

Stern and his wife, Beth, also have a 3.23-acre property in Palm Beach, Florida, worth a whopping $65 million, according to The New York Post. Stern has been spending most of his time broadcasting from this Floridian property. This made it fairly easy for him to take the hour and 45-minute drive down to Miami for live shows in May 2023.

But Stern absolutely did not want to go and do his first in-person shows in three years. And this was mostly to do with his aversion to staying in a hotel.

Howard Stern's Demanded Multiple Hotel Rooms In Miami

After playing recordings of a screaming child in the room next door to one of his well-paid staffers, Howard Stern admitted that hotel noise is one of his biggest pet peeves. He went on to say that it was one of the reasons why he didn't want to go to Miami.

Fortunately for the radio legend, SiriusXM executives did everything that they could to make him comfortable. This includes fronting the bill for not one but multiple hotel rooms for him and his animal activist and sugar-addicted wife, Beth.

"I did make a Hollywood, star-like, demand," Howard Stern admitted to his staffers, co-host Robin Quivers, and his radio audience on May 8th, 2023.

"I said, 'If you guys want me to go to Miami... you got to get the room above me and the room below and rent that room too. Because I don't want to hear anything.'"

Stern went on to clarify that he wanted to be on the top floor and made the people at SiriusXM check with the hotel to ensure that there was nothing above him.

"That's a baller move, I f***ing love it," staffer Chris Wilding said to his boss following the story of his nightmarish experience with the screaming baby next to his Miami hotel room.

"It was dead quiet, where I was," Stern admitted of his stay at the undisclosed Miami hotel.

In a previous show, Stern claimed that his hotel room, which he shared with his wife, had a pool on the roof.

As for why Stern didn't pay for these hotel rooms himself ultimately comes down to the fact that it was a business trip. All of the staffers' hotel rooms were paid for by SiriusXM who wanted the Stern Show down in Miami for live, in-person interviews with the likes of Pitbull, Carrie Underwood, Jon Bon Jovi, and TikTok star Alix Earle.

While these demands may sound like a lot from someone who has as much money as Stern does, they're actually typical. In Stern's case, they may also be understandable. For one, celebrities like Stern want their privacy, which is often infringed upon by fans and the paparazzi. Stern is also a huge draw for SiriusXM who want their biggest money-maker well-rested and happy in order to perform on his early morning shows.

Then again, celebrities tend to make some pretty outrageous demands due to the power they yield.

The Craziest Celebrity Hotel Requests

Of course, Howard Stern's hotel demand pales in comparison to others made by the rich and famous. According to Forbes, U2 frontman Bono once demanded to stay at a hotel in Ireland that was closed for reimbursem*nt... on Christmas Eve... a mere couple of hours after he first asked.

Forbes also detailed other out-of-this-world hotel requests from unnamed celebrity guests, such as having the hotel hire a model to personally greet their kids, fly in blood oranges from another country, and send a meal from Australia to a remote village in Thailand.

According to Deux Moi, via news.com.au, Mariah Carey had Disney World redo an entire hotel room to be white prior to her stay. Lady Gaga had all the furniture in one hotel stripped and replaced before she arrived. Jennifer Lopez frequently demanded to be on the 14th floor of any given hotel and, much like Carey, also wanted a room painted a different color before her arrival.

So while Howard Stern's demands to be placed on the top floor of his Miami hotel with the surrounding rooms also booked out may seem demanding, his request appears to be pretty tame.
