Hi y'all!! I got my updated MCAT score back yesterday and I would love some help finalizing my school list School list!! Va resident, 3.54 GPA, 516 MCAT, reapplicant (1) This will actually be my third time applying -- for the 2022 cycle I got waitlisted at EVMS and for 2023 I got WL at EVMS and VCU but no As. I took the 2024 cycle off to retake my MCAT. Thank you in advance!!

  1. cGPA 3.54 (3.67/3.56/3.33/3.58), sGPA 3.43 (3.63/3.27/3.18/3.65)
  2. MCAT: 1st attempt July 2020 - 511 (127/127/128/129). 2nd attempt May 2024 - 516 (130/125/129/132)
  3. Va resident (no ties to other states)
  4. ORM (white)
  5. graduated in 2021 from a T40 (possibly??) public university
  6. Clinical experience: 300 hours as a volunteer scribe for a free clinic with many specialties, 5300 hours as head scribe at the same clinic during my three gap years (paid)
  7. Research experience: 100 hours in a neuro/psych lab and 150 hours in a bio lab, but no publications
  8. Shadowing: 105ish hours with endo, neuro, wound care, and ortho
  9. Nonclinical volunteering: 75 hours with a volunteer org in college, 25 hours for my sorority’s philanthropy, and 10 hours (so far) at a food and clothes pantry with ~200 expected (definitely focusing on this for this coming year!)
    1. also tutoring which I know is a separate category: 100 hrs ESOL tutor, and 51 hours tutoring college calc and physics, high school algebra and chem privately
  10. Other ECs/leadership:

    4. team lead at a restaurant (600 hours)
    5. 2 work study jobs
    6. I might mention playing 5 instruments as a hobby? I'm not sure but it's been a really big part of my life since I was like 4 lol
  11. Awards: deans list for 4 semesters, 2 honor societies, and a scholars program for STEM majors
  12. I’m not fluent in Spanish but I’ve been learning a lot where I work/learning on my own and I do a lot of translating as needed/calling patients in Spanish and a it’s a big part of my personal statement School list!! Va resident, 3.54 GPA, 516 MCAT, reapplicant (2)

I made a huge list of potential schools because I definitely want to apply broadly, but I'm not sure which schools are the most appropriate for me to apply to with my stats or as a Va resident, or if I need to add any. I know some of them are definitely a stretch but I don't know if they're completely not worth it or whatever. I don't think I'm going to apply to this many and I know I'll have to cut several! I appreciate y'all's help!!

I guess the non-clinical volunteering (food/clothing distribution) is better some than none, but it's a little disappointing you had two years to address this from your initial application attempt and only racked up 20 hours at submission time, which you know is hardly a dent. I'm presuming the bulk of your clinical hours listed were added in the past year or two. Hopefully EVMS can give you feedback since they waitlisted you twice. You have two strikes against you, so you should consider applying to VCOM (DO) to avoid being a 3x reapplicant.

Your low non clinical volunteering hours will limit your chances for interviews. As a 3rd time applicant, you should apply to DO schools also.
I suggest these schools from your list:
Albany
Rosalind Franklin
Hofstra
Drexel
EVMS
Geisinger Commonwealth
George Washington
Hackensack Meridian
Indiana U
Temple
Marshall
Medical College Wisconsin
NYMC
Nova southeastern
Oakland
Penn State
Vermont
Sidney Kimmel
Frist Belmont
Tufts
Arizona Phoenix
U of Colorado
U of Iowa
Umass Chan
UVA
VCU
Virginia Tech
Wake Forest
West Virginia
Western Michigan
You could add NOVA MD, TCU, Wayne State
For DO schools I suggest these:
VCOM Virginia
WVSOM
CUSOM
PCOM
NYITCOM
Touro-NY
MU-COM
DMU-COM
ATSU-KCOM
KCU-COM
AZCOM
CCOM

@Mr.Smile12 @Faha thank y'all so much! I know, it's definitely my bad for not focusing more on volunteering with working and then studying for the MCAT so I just recently started at the food pantry, but I will definitely focus on that this year! I appreciate your help! School list!! Va resident, 3.54 GPA, 516 MCAT, reapplicant (4)
