Seahawk Summer Academy (2024)

The Seahawk Summer Academy is a summer bridge program designed for recent high school graduates or first-time college students. The program schedule consists of two linked courses taken at the same time during the Summer term. The Academy students will be able to form meaningful human connections and cultivate a sense of social belonging to Broward College. Students will also learn about career, transfer, and professional opportunities as we will be encouraging them to "keep the end in mind" and choose a Pathway Community before they finish the program!

LEARNING COMMUNITY
Students will form a support network and learn about everything Broward College has to offer before classes start in the fall. Getting a head start before everyone else will increase their chances of meeting their educational goals and graduating on time.

CONTEXTUALIZED COURSES
Students will explore various career choices and choose assignment topics that are relevant to them and their personal interests. Choosing their career pathway early will increase their chances of graduating sooner or on time, thus, saving them time and money.

HAVE FUN WHILE LEARNING
This is not a typical program. Students will have the opportunity to participate in fun activities and events during the session including a fun Seahawk Summer Academy's own orientation and graduation.

NOT A ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL PROGRAM
In addition to the aforementioned unique features, this academy will be offering different cohort tracks to appeal to the personal interest and unique needs of our students. For example, this summer, one of those special topic tracks is Male Minority Leadership. Students interested in this topic will be empowered through exciting learning opportunities to become future male minority leaders in their community.

PEER MENTORING OPPORTUNITY
As first-time college students, Seahawk Summer Academy participants have access to trained mentors called Seahawk Peer Leaders. Peer Leaders support Broward College students each step of the way as they work towards completing their degrees and reaching their educational goals. Peer Leaders are current students or BC alumni who have been trained in leadership and mentoring skills to be able to provide the best possible support to become a successful student. To learn more about the Peer Mentoring and Leadership program, visit the Peer Mentoring site.
